Garden design for a newly built contemporary home in Ames,
A Coruña, Galicia.
The aim of this project was to achieve a complete fusion between the building and its natural surroundings. Verde Leria designed the exterior paving to define paths and seating areas, integrating them fluidly and naturally with the planting
The planting, naturalistic in character, follows the paths, wraps around the outdoor spaces and helps to define them, creating distinct atmospheres within the same garden.
The tree planting combines native species such as Silver Birches, Oaks and Cork Oaks with more exotic choices such as tree ferns and Crape Myrtles, in a carefully balanced composition. These are the key elements that give structure to the landscape and, by contrast, enhance the architectural volumes of the house and the rich textures of its facades.
The blurring of the boundary between inside and outside runs throughout the project, extending beyond the garden into the house itself. The architect incorporated several interior courtyards to bring light and nature into the living spaces. These micro landscapes were also designed by Verde Leria, with naturalistic scenes evoking native woodland floors and riverbed planting.
